Chinese winemaker Xige Estate unveils a premium collection whose design draws on local terroir.
Xige Estate, the largest winery in China’s Ningxia region, is developing a range of premium wines under its Jade Dove brand. Deliberately luxurious, the brand’s identity and packaging design entrusted to Chinese designer Wu Kuanfu (O'Excel - Shenzhen Zhuoshang Brand Design Consulting Co., Ltd) makes reference to the origins, culture and centuries-old traditions of the production region. Following the creation of a first version of the label in simple Chinese characters in 2018, the designer sourced inspiration from the vineyard that resulted in a new concept one year later. "Our Single Vineyard range highlights the characteristics of the different grape varieties as they are expressed in the Ningxia terroir. To push the concept even further, on the back labels we’ve identified the exact satellite location of the parcels selected for the vintages by indicating the latitude and longitude data," explains Christelle Chêne, Director of International Affairs at Ningxia Xige Estate.
The labels, made of imported white cotton paper that is resistant to very low temperatures and exposure to ice, are produced by Shenzhen Shuang Tian Suo Packagings Design Co, Ltd.
Sheathed in imported tissue paper, the bottles are packed in wood cases (Dongguan DS Wood Co. Ltd). "We chose to use pine for the bottom and black walnut for the lid. Instead of a sliding or nailed lid that can be inconvenient to open, we designed a lid that is simply placed atop the wooden case in a perfect fit. Independent from the bottom of the case, it becomes a refined work of art in itself with a delicate texture to the touch. The wood grains feature black and grey veins that are never the same," concludes Chêne.
