The world’s leading producer of cosmetic dropper packs for the luxury cosmetic industry, Virospack maintains its position by investing in CSR, cutting-edge facilities, international development, and R&D—the Barcelona-based company leaves nothing to chance. We spoke with Vicenç Rodriguez, CEO.
You just created Virospack Asia in Shanghai. What is your strategy in the region?
The Virospack group is highly international: 95% of our production is exported. Things move fast on the Asian market, so to be responsive and flexible, we had to reinforce our presence closer to demand. Initially, Virospack Asia will operate as a supply unit, a kind of logistics hub that will allow us to stay in direct contact with local brands. Since our goal is to offer Asian clients the best fast-to-market solutions, the second step will be to open an assembly site in China.
You began an eco-construction project that will double the production area of your site near Barcelona. Can you tell us more?
We have added a BREEAM-certified extension that will increase our production surface to 21,000m2. The new building will meet the highest standards of energy efficiency. Our commitment to sustainable development, and more broadly to CSR, with all that it implies in terms of ethics and concern for the well-being of our employees, is nothing new. Remember that we are both ISO 14001 and EMAS certified. Continuing to improve the environmental quality of our production process is one our top priorities, and we leave nothing to chance in striving to reach our goals of reducing CO2 emissions. Our teams are fully onboard with this strategic approach, which we regularly evaluate by carrying out life-cycle analyses of our products. We are aiming to integrate the circular economy through increasing our use of PCR materials like glass, plastic, and aluminum, and upcycling our scraps.
You also continue to invest in cutting-edge facilities (a completely automated warehouse, AI-assisted quality control, etc.).
One of the results of this sustained effort to invest in next-generation technologies is that Virospack has one of the most efficient production units in the sector. But we also invest in Research & Developemnt: sustainable innovation is the cornerstone of our sustainable strategy. Our wooden dropper cap is a good example of this, as it is the first 100% wooden dropper to launch on the market. And it was a real technical feat: glue-free and made from FSC certified wood, it contains no plastic inserts. It’s separable, recyclable, and compostable, and is available in different woods to offer the luxury market a final product that has an aesthetic perfectly suited to its needs.
