Vetropack invests in new Italian glassworks

The Swiss glassmaker is investing more the CHF400m (US$424m) in a new plant in Italy that is expected to come online in the second quarter of 2023.

Vetropack, a Swiss glassmaker serving the food and beverage markets including wines and spirits, is channeling more than CHF400m ($424m) into a new plant in Italy.

Located in Boffalora sopra Ticino near Milan at the former Reno De Medici paper mill site, the new glassworks is expected to begin production in the second quarter of next year. Some 170,000mis allocated to production facilities, which will start up with two furnaces.

"Thanks to modern equipment and processes, we can produce more flexibly and better meet the increasing demand for high-quality packaging, even in smaller volumes or 'semi-specials'," Christoph Burgermeister, Project Manager at Vetropack, said in a statement.

"The Italian market is of great importance to us and, with its many global brands, it plays a central role in our strategy," added Johann Reiter, CEO of Vetropack Holding Ltd.
