PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri is Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2022. It is the first time Pantone has created a new hue for its educational color program. Hot on the heels of the color unveil, flavor and fragrance company Firmenich announced the creation of a fragrance collection inspired by Very Peri.

From beauty and fashion to packaging, Pantone’s newly revealed Color of the Year – Very Peri – is set to take center stage in 2022. PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri is said to blend “the faithfulness and constancy of blue with the energy and excitement of red.”

“Creating a new color for the first time in the history of our Pantone Color of the Year educational color program reflects the global innovation and transformation taking place,” says Pantone Color Institute Vice President Laurie Pressman. “The complexity of this new red violet infused blue hue highlights the expansive possibilities that lay before us.”

Pantone imagines Very Peri to be embraced in different materials, textures and finishes, from hand-crafted to high-tech. In beauty, for example, Very Peri lends itself to applications in eyes, nails and hair, with finishes ranging from glittery, shimmery metallics to dusty matte.

Swiss flavor and fragrance company Firmenich, a Pantone Sensory Partner, has teased its new fragrance collection inspired by Very Peri. Dubbed Pure Imagination, the collection is described as ”an olfactive reflection of the new consumer reality of duality”. Firmenich perfumers worldwide developed Pure Imagination using ingredients linked to the emotions around the Color of the Year to illustrate “the emotional relationship between color and scent”. The collection spans fine fragrance, shower gels and candles. More details are set to follow in 2022.

For 2021, Pantone elected Pantone 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and Pantone 13-0647 Illuminating - a cheerful and sunny yellow – as its colors of the year.
