Italian family-owned winery Varvaglione 1921 has launched a premium olive oil in celebration of its 100th birthday. The bespoke label, specially created for this particular blend, features a 3D golden droplet effect.
Varvaglione 1921’s limited-edition Evo olive oil was launched earlier this year as the Italian wine and olive oil maker celebrated 100 years of business. Design agency Idem Design came up with the sleek, sophisticated packaging with gold detailing. The product, from Italy’s Puglia region, is housed in a square-shaped bottle - Vetroelite’s Capri model.
The label (Eurostampa) is printed on Manter by Fedrigoni SelfAdhesives’ Tintoretto Gesso Greaseproof paper, a felt-marked paper with "anti-grease" treatment. Luxuro – Leonhard Kurz’s Trustseal SFX optical technology was used to create the 3D aspect of the “golden nuggets of oil” that appear as if emerging from the surface of the label. The holographic nuggets are hot stamped gold to recall the color of the oil. Olive leaves are printed with dry bas-relief, while the text is hot stamped in a similar gold hue to the nuggets.
For Eurostampa, the challenge lay in optimizing the quality and technical level of the process to combine all these enhancements in a single pass of the printing press.
