Reinforcing its presence in the UK market, Belgian packaging group Van Genechten has inked a 50/50 joint venture with UK-based paper packaging supplier CartonCare.
A joint venture was announced this week between Van Genechten and CartonCare, a privately owned printing and packaging group comprised of three entities: Pendragon Presentation Packaging, specialized in bespoke packaging for the luxury sector, CartonCare and MSO Cleland. The deal gives the Belgian group a stronger foothold in the UK market. CartonCare has a combined annual turnover of €30m and operates two sites in Northern Ireland and one in England.
Pendragon Presentation Packaging, with its focus on the luxury market, manufactures from its base in Malvern, England as well as in Asia and Europe. CartonCare and MSO produce folding cartons and labels for the food, pharmaceutical and premium markets for the UK and Ireland markets.
“Both our companies are at home in several of the same market segments. CartonCare Group’s connections within the UK market cover some gaps within the Van Genechten Packaging footprint and this strategic step opens up additional opportunities to expand our design and production capabilities and our European presence,” commented Van Genechten Packaging Group CEO Frank Ohle in a statement.
This deal follows Van Genechten’s investments earlier this year in European production with the opening of a second site in Komárom, Hungary and the expansion of manufacturing and warehousing capacity in Chelmek, Poland.
