Surface effects in the spotlight at Altus Coating

French finishing specialist Altus Coating was showcasing a variety of surface relief effects via UV varnish metallization.

These textured effects showed at Paris Packaging Week can be applied to bio-sourced materials (including rPET, RPP, PLA), wood, metal, plastic and glass. “When it comes to the topcoat, rather than applying a glossy metallic varnish, we can integrate pigments that result in holographic or interferential effects,” explains President Eric Pertus.

In terms of advances in more sustainable decoration techniques, Altus Coating is able to offer “lighter” metallization effects whose coating is more light-resistant than traditional colors. Pertus also pointed out that given the luxury industry’s growing demand for more durable packaging solutions, brands should be willing to “accept the unique nature of each product. If we want to reduce waste, let’s valorize scraps and change the mindset by giving value to the beauty of imperfection!”
