Dispensing solutions specialist Silgan Dispensing has expanded the production of its Melodie pump to China on the back of increased customer demand amid a flourishing fragrance market.
At its Wuxi facility in China, Silgan Dispensing is now producing its Melodie prestige fragrance pump. This comes in the context of a China fragrance market that is forecast to reach ¥15.4bn (€2.03bn) by 2025, according to Mintel, with a CAGR of 17%. Silgan Dispensing says that adding China to its manufacturing footprint for the pump enables it to provide its customers in the region with “local technical and commercial support, short lead times, and responsive, agile service”.
“Our aim in expanding the production of Melodie to our Wuxi facility is to give our customers in China and the Asia-Pacific region more localized service. This extends to any customers who might also have a presence in that area as well,” Silgan Dispensing Marketing Director Fragrance Sandy Gregory tells Formes de Luxe. “We’re able to produce Melodie in Wuxi in the existing facility and have added one assembly line and certain molds to be able to manufacture the pump on-site,” she adds. The company declined to disclose details on production capacity.
In Asia, Melodie is available with several premium customization options. These include the NoC patented invisible dip tube and the Melodie Forever spray, which offers prolonged, fine atomization and controllable actuation. Silgan's Melodie pump has been adopted by a slew of luxury fragrance brands, including Paco Rabanne for its Fame women’s scent, Christian Louboutin with Loubiworld and Giorgio Armani with My Way.
Silgan Dispensing produces a range of products its Wuxi facility, including its Pearl 2 airless dispenser for beauty and personal care products. Designed for e-commerce, it uses a patented, plastic spring developed thanks to the supplier’s LifeCycle technology, meaning the dispenser is made “almost entirely” of a single polyolefin. Pearl 2 is said to be able to withstand changes in air pressure, ensuring that it doesn't leak during transport or air travel - a must in the online sales channel.
