Silent Pool Distillers’ new luxury gin hit the market this spring. The packaging is comprised of a lacquered, tactile bottle adorned with zamak embellishments and a metal coffret. This comes just two years after the brand rolled out a gin in Frugalpac's paper bottle.
British independent gin distillery Silent Pool Distillers has come out with a high-end gin distilled with black juniper berries from Bhutan. Dubbed Black Juniper Gin, its packaging was dreamed up by UK-based design agency Seymour Powell.
“The bottle design inspiration was a subtle fusing of our classic bottle pattern, the copper of our still and the calm of the Himalayas,” the brand tells Formes de Luxe. Tactile rings feature on Saverglass’ 1-liter Oxygen stock bottle, which is sprayed and printed (Dekorglass).
The nickel galvanized diecast zamak stopper, base and coin badge embellishment (Signet Branding) have a matte copper UV coating and debossed text. The coin badge’s “jewel-like” feature, intended to symbolize the Bhutanese juniper berry, is achieved using a bespoke enamel paint. Color matched in rose gold and blue, the embossed aluminum neck label with satin finish is part of Signet Branding’s Marque label range.
The gin comes in a metal box (Propak UK) that is a nod to the rectifying column on the still used to make the spirit. The box label, also from Signet Brand’s Marque range, is round embossed along the border and text. It combines an overall satin finish with a matte textural finishing for the dragon illustration. Screenprinting and embossing were used to decorate the box, whose interior combines card, Alcantara (a synthetic material with the appearance of suede) and foam inserts. Launched in March, Silent Pool Black Juniper Gin retails at £275 (€312).
Silent Pool has also experimented with novel packaging formats; it was among the first spirits brands to work with Frugalpac's Frugal Bottle, which Sophie Best, General Manager at Silent Pool Distillers, had told Formes de Luxe was chosen notably for its "sustainability credentials and design flexibility". Made of 94% recycled paperboard, Frugal Bottle contains an interior food-grade plastic pouch to hold the liquid. The format is said to be “up to" five times lighter than a glass bottle, with a resulting carbon footprint that is six times lower. Cost-wise, the paperboard bottle is said to be comparable to glass.
