For the 20 year anniversary of Rhum Clément’s iconic blue sugar cane Canne Bleue, the brand has launched not one, but two rums. French agency Maison Linea was behind the design.
With its blue glass and vintage feel, the 2020 edition of Rhum Clément’s Canne Bleue comes with a second copper edition to celebrate two decades of the rum produced in Martinique.
Because of last year’s drought, the blue sugar cane resulted in an exceptional millésime, says Rhum Clément, giving an aroma tinged with notes of orange blossom, pepper and green tobacco.
Canne Bleue is housed in Saverglass’ standard Ness model featuring fine grooves engraved in the mold, giving it a vintage aesthetic. The bulk-dyed blue glass is stamped with ‘Martinique’ near the base, a nod to the rum’s origins.
The blue of the glass is echoed in the metallic blue label with silver accents that adorns the facing. The highly textured embossed aluminum adhesive label was supplied by Ukraine-based JSC Technologia. The bottle is topped with an engraved blue metallic stopper (Les Bouchages Delage).
In homage to the product’s 20th anniversary, Rhum Clement launched the Canne Bleue Rhum Vieux 2020 collector’s edition, a blend of the finest Canne Bleue, aged from 3 to 11 years in bourbon oak casks. It contains hints of cinnamon, cocoa and orange. Featuring the same bottle and stopper as the white rum, the blend boasts a copper label with blue accents.
Some 40,000 bottles of Canne Bleue white rum have been produced, along with 20,000 of the aged rum. The 2020 edition of Canne Bleue launched in Martinique last December and is rolling out in France at wine merchants in February 2021.
