Regional culture inspires Toro Albalá’s premium vinegar pack

For its aged, premium vinegar, Spanish winery Toro Albalá opted for secondary packaging in the shape of a fan, a symbol of the brand’s native region. Series Nemo is behind the pack design.

Toro Albalá’s Vinagre Gran Reserva 25 y 50 años – a vinegar made from Pedro Ximénez grapes from Spain’s Montilla-Moriles region that were aged for 25 or 50 years in Castilian oak barrels – is housed in a clear glass bottle with rounded shoulders and thick base (Estal).

The “alchemical connotations” of the bottle’s form are meant to bring to mind an oenological laboratory, says Series Nemo, which designed the custom-made stopper.

The origami-like secondary pack was originally designed to evoke the blooming carnations native to the city of Córdoba, yet supplier Autajon Packaging Durero tweaked the design to come up with a pack that resembled a fan — also a symbol of Andalusia, where the brand is based, according to Autajon Packaging Durero Account Manager Elda Martin.

The coffret is made of GZ carton board and decorated using copper hot stamping and matte and glossy UV varnish. The numbers on each pack represent the vinegar’s aging times.
