An investment of more than €6m at its Kierspe, Germany site will enable beauty packaging supplier Quadpack to meet increased demand for ‘made in Europe’ solutions.
Quadpack is channelling more than €6m into its German manufacturing facility in Kierspe, the former Louvrette site acquired in 2019.
The investment will be spread over 2021-2022 and includes the previously announced €2m investment in the site. Increasing capacity in injection molding and assembly - with a boosted workforce, new molds and injection and assembly equipment - is on the agenda.
Quadpack also aims to establish a new decoration hub, bringing capabilities in-house to increase speed to market. Late last year, the supplier acquired German full hot-stamping specialist Stefan Wicklein Kunststoffveredelung in Steinbach am Wald, adding hot-foil stamping to its existing decoration offer of lacquering and metallization that came with the purchase of Louvrette.
“Local production is key to our growth plans, as we strengthen our capability in Europe. The investment, along with the acquisition of Wicklein, enhances our decoration know-how and service offering. Now we are looking to attract local talent to join the global Quadpack family, to support our long-term expansion,” Quadpack CEO Tim Eaves explains to Luxe Packaging Insight.
In line with its sustainability commitments, Quadpack says it is exploring alternative decoration techniques and collaborating with suppliers to research more sustainable materials in the areas of ink, varnish and foil. The supplier is also gradually moving away from SAN and SMMA production to PET and rPET, which offer greater recyclability.
“Our Kierspe plant is already a center of expertise for PET injection [...]. Now, we can add decoration expertise, thus cutting down on transportation, improving Scope 3 CO2 emissions and speeding up lead times,” Quadpack COO Fabrice Revert said in a statement. “As the market recovers and environmental consciousness grows, there is greater demand for our ‘Made in Europe’ solutions. Our investment in Germany brings production closer to home for the majority of our client base.”
Quadpack says the 2022 sales of its Kierspe plant are forecast to be in line with the 25% growth recorded in 2021. And as for market recovery, the supplier highlights that skincare is forecast to grow 10% in 2022, with the clean beauty and dermocosmetics segments spelling strong potential.
