Three French suppliers have partnered to create a rechargeable, anti-microbial mascara.
Pylote, an expert in inorganic chemistry for infection prevention; Somater, a producer of plastic packaging; and Simp, a manufacturer of polymer mascara brushes, revealed their mascara innovation at Paris Packaging Week. Pylote’s technology decontaminates surfaces thanks to a mineral powder that destroys micro-organisms through catalysis, imitating a naturally present chemical reaction.
This mineral powder is free of metal and nanoparticles. In this case, it has been integrated into the plastic of the mascara wand and brush. Optimal hygienic conditions mean the applicator can be reused several times when the empty tube is replaced.
“We modified the usual approach whereby chemical agents are released on the surface of a material to kill microbes. The agents ultimately transfer to the hands, causing them to lose their effectiveness over time," explains Loïc Marchin, CEO of Pylote. “With our solution, the microbeads remain in the material.”
The mascara can be manufactured with 100% recycled content on request.
