Parfums Christian Dior unveils latest Dior Homme

For its Dior Homme men’s EdT, Parfums Christian Dior opted for a modern reinterpretation of the minimalist packaging that characterized the first editions of the fragrance.

The EdT is housed in a transparent square-shaped glass bottle (Pochet du Courval) featuring a sculpted interior that is set off by the golden-colored fragrance. Like in other Dior Homme fragrances, a black cache tube covering the transparent dip tube (Silgan Dispensing) furthers the design statement. The pump, Silgan Dispensing’s XD11 model, has an invisible engine. The flacon is topped with a weighty cap (Axilone) made of Surlyn (Dow), long a material of choice for the Dior Homme franchise. “No other material could meet these design specifications, while retaining its glass-like appearance and producing such a solid, heavy cap,” explains Axilone Technical Manager Lionel Bevan.

Design-wise, the perfectly square cap was created to be at one with the bottle to create a monolithic, elegant and sober ensemble, explains Maud Maillebuau, Project Manager Packaging Development at Parfums Dior. “Shatterproof and scratch-resistant, Surlyn gives the packaging a premium appearance with its crystalline transparency and high gloss. It is also soft and warm to the touch.”

The cap consists of a black insert hot-stamped in silver overmolded in Surlyn. Thick layers of material had to be injected, which increased the risk of distortion, explains Axilone. The supplier opted for Surlyn PC2000, which has a relatively low melting point compared to other materials, and allowed for a mono-injected overmolding with a clean and precise surface finish free of visual defects.

Dior Homme retails at €67 for 50ml EdT and €90 for 100ml EdT. Created by in-house perfumer François Demachy, the scent contains notes of Atlas cedar, patchouli and vetiver.
