In a major men’s launch for Paco Rabanne, Puig has unveiled Phantom, an eau de toilette billed as the brand’s “first connected perfume”. The screw-top fragrance cap, enabling the packaging to be refilled, features an NFC chip that gives consumers access to the “Paco Galaxy”.
Phantom, the new men’s fragrance pillar from Paco Rabanne, comes in a flacon in the form of a robot (Pochet du Courval, Heinz Glas). For the glassmakers, the bottle's flat shoulders, control of glass distribution to avoid brittleness in the most sensitive areas and the quality of the glass surface required for perfect tension after metallization were particularly complex. In addition to metallization (Solev), the bottle is lacquered a translucent brown and laser etched to reveal the ‘R’ for Rabanne.
Phantom is fitted with a metallic finish spray cap (VPI Faiveley Plast, SAF) in galvanized ABS. The screw-top spray enables the 150ml format to be refilled using Techniplast’s RT-Twist technology. To refill the flacon, the consumer unscrews and removes the cap and the pump before twisting the refill onto the bottle neck— this gesture is designed to produce a premium user experience, says VPI.
The cap for the 100ml and 150ml formats is connected thanks to an NFC chip embedded during assembly. For VPI, which produced these two cap formats, the chip had to remain readable despite the decor on the cap. The chip is activated by placing a smartphone against the cap and gives consumers access to the ‘Paco Galaxy’ — including exclusive content such as interactive filters and games as well as personalized playlists.
The 50ml flacon is equipped with Silgan Dispensing’s XDII pump, while the 100ml features the supplier’s Melody Pump.
Phantom comes in a box (Wauters, GPack) made of Iggesund’s Invercote 380g. The facing, with its polyester coating, is decorated with a combination of white and black UV offset printing, multi-layer embossing and matte and glossy lacquer.
The “new-generation aromatic” eau de toilette was created by Anne Flipo, Dominique Ropion, Loc Dong and Juliette Karagueuzoglou (IFF) and contains notes of lemon, lavender and vanilla.
The EDT is launching in August and retails at €74 for 50ml and €101 for 100ml. The 150ml refillable version costs €119 and the 200ml refill is priced at €125.
