Drawing on the Korean roots of its founder, niche player OHTOP has entered the fragrance market with a collection of five minimalist scents. Prioritizing eco-design, the brand opted for refillable flacons and starch cellophane.

Franco-Korean niche perfume brand OHTOP debuted a range of five unisex fragrances last April. The fragrance packaging is designed by the brand’s founder Romeo Oh and Paris-based creative agency De baschmakoff.

The brand opted for rectangular, refillable stock flacons (Coverpla) with a thick base. Three of the five bottles are lacquered in semi-translucent shades of green and gray, while an opaque green and red lacquer adorns the other two. Minimalist silk-screened text with the brand and fragrance name decorates the facing.

Black lacquered zamak caps (Dongguan Leaders Hardware Plastic Co.) top the translucent flacons, while the red and green lacquered caps were chosen for bottles lacquered in the same colors.

The secondary packaging (Inessens) is printed on Fedrigoni’s FSC-certified Splendorpack 350g/m2 stock, which has a raw, felted look. Decorated with black offset printing, using vegetable oil-based inks, the boxes feature transparent gilding and embossing. Searching for alternatives to a traditional cellophane wrapper, the brand opted to protect the secondary packaging with a recyclable starch cellophane paper.

Blending Korean and French culture

Brand founder Romeo OH incorporated olfactory elements from his own cultural heritage, such as shiso and yuzu, into the creation of the OHTOP fragrance range. The collection includes Fleur d’OH, Green Flannel, Ohsphalte, Paranoïaque and I Hate Rose; the scents were developed as a collaboration between Oh and perfumers Alexis Dadier (Robertet), Amélie Bourgeois (Flair Paris), and Anne-Sophie Behaghel (Flair Paris). The fragrance range hit store shelves in May, retailing at €170 for 100ml.
