Texen puts a focus on spirits

French plastic packaging supplier Texen is dedicating a business unit to the spirits segment in a bid to increase its share of this growing market. We spoke with Anne-Louise Rossand, Texen’s global account manager in charge of the spirits sector.

Already present in the spirits sector through the production of decorative sleeves, injected caps and coffrets, Texen, widely known for its cosmetics packaging, aims to boost its presence in the segment through two of its manufacturing entities: Rose, specialized in the production of screw-top caps, flip-top capsules and finishing solutions, and CMSI, a plastic injection and tooling specialist. Texen acquired both companies in the 1990s.

“Texen has been active in spirits for several years and we’re now looking to increase our visibility in the sector, notably through our recent creations, which include a coffret created for Hennessy and closures for Rémy Martin cognac,” Anne-Louise Rossand explains to Luxe Packaging Insight. “Our expertise in the fragrance and cosmetics segment carries over into premium spirits in the area of coffrets and injected, decorated, overmolded and weighted stoppers, among others. We are also equipped with injection moulding machines of up to 500 tons.”

Rossand also highlighted Texen’s current efforts in the area of eco-design. “Given today’s priorities when it comes to sustainable packaging, we're looking closely at producing products for reuse, mono-material packs and optimizing our use of raw materials, which includes working with PCR variants.”

The spirits segment accounts for around 5 % of Texen’s business today, a percentage that Rossand aims to grow, without giving specific targets.

PSB Industries, owner of Texen, announced earlier this month that it was in talks to acquire plastics and metal supplier Qualipac from Pochet Group.
