Applicators with paper handles, lipstick bullets with optical illusion embossing and an airless powder dispenser were among the winners of the 2022 MakeUp in LosAngeles IT Awards. The competition rewards make-up and skincare innovations from show exhibitors.
The MakeUp in LosAngeles IT Awards were hotly anticipated this year, with the winners revealed on the first day of the beauty trade show. Four victors were chosen across Formulation, Full Service, Packaging and Accessory, from 22 short-listed products and 87 total submissions.
In the Accessory category, HNB Corporation was declared the winner for its paper handle applicators. Designed for in-store product testing, the applicators' recycled paper handles can be printed with different designs. The range includes applicators for lip products and eye shadow, as well as a mascara wand applicator.
The Formulation IT Award went to B.Kolormakeup & Skincare for its Lip Legend No-Transfer Liquid Lipstick. While no-transfer lip products are usually associated with heavy, powdery textures, the company says, Lip Legend’s moisturizing and long-lasting formula has a creamy liquid texture offering “sensorial application, controlled glide and a non-dry after feel”. The supplier says the formula is free from ingredients including phenoxyethanol, parabens, silicone and PEG.
Chromavis Fareva’s Evoke won the Full Service IT Award. The lipstick bullet features patent-pending optical illusion embossing that reflects light when the product is held at different angles. Text, visuals or logos are either hidden or apparent depending on how the lipstick is moved.
APR Beauty Group scooped the Packaging award for its Airless Powder Pump. The monomaterial solution – in 100% PP – is made using a minimal number of components. It is billed as an aerosol alternative for dry formulations, and is ideally suited for body powder. The pack is said to offer precise and directional diffusion.
