Luxe Pack Monaco innovations: paper & cardboard

This week, we focus on the latest innovations in the paper sector launched at the Luxe Pack Monaco show.

BillerudKorsnäs, a premium range

CrownBoard offers three board products made of 100% virgin wood fibers, in several thicknesses and weights for the fragrance and cosmetics, health, beverage and premium confectionery sectors. Its strength is due to both its long, strong fiber composition and to the design of this multi-purpose board. The CrownBoard Prestige high brightness flagship product combines strength, formability and printability, while CrownBoard Artisan has a silky feel surface that adds a tactile dimension to packaging. And to complete the range, CrownBoard Craft is a white/brown board that is ultra strong and versatile.

ESKA welcomes a wider range of Colours

Last year, Eska launched Eska Colours: a collection of cardboard in three layers, 100% recycled and mass dyed in red, pink, orange, black and white for intense and bright shades. Five new colors have been added to the range: blue, azure, taupe, yellow and green, to provide packaging with a modern, ecological and original edge. Eska also creates custom colors. With its partner Box by 111, the supplier presented a new paperless box concept, with more precise edges, and inserts in different colors. In addition, Eska Jeans, its 100% biodegradable cardboard made from recycled denim, has been available since October 2019.

Gmund Paper, all in black and white

Gmund Paper’s new fine paper collection was developed in partnership with the Bahaus Dessau Foundation in Germany. Known for showcasing colors, here Gmund Paper unveiled three new solid color papers: one deep black and and two versions of white, all available in various weights ranging from 120 to 350 grams. The highest weight is aimed at packaging applications and is compatible with all printing techniques and decorations.

Smurfit Kappa, decoration in pole position

For the wine and spirits sector, Smurfit Kappa presented its technique for lenses printed on boxes (nano-engraving), in different shapes (round, trapezoidal, repeats). Likewise, cold foiling allows for the creation of complex gold, silver or bronze decorations, from a single image and online printing as illustrated by the limited edition case for Martell Cognac - Dr. Woo. In terms of inserts, the supplier is focusing on the use and targeted placing of polyethylene labels inside perfume coffrets, so as to protect bottles and prevent scratching. “The sticker can be removed and recycled more easily with the cardboard,” explains marketing and innovation director Gérard Mathieu.

Metsä Board, an expanded FBB range

MetsäBoard showcased its improved range of folding cardboard boxes, launched last April. The new FBB (folding box board) cardboard box comprises five boxes, and the all-new MetsäBoard Prime FBB EB eco-barrier plastic-free board. The new range of cardboards for folding boxes brings new possibilities for lightweighting, while maintaining a high-end appearance.

Arjowiggins Creative Papers, range of colors

Arjowiggins Creative Papers has expanded its Keaykolour range from 20 to 48 colors, while 15 shades complete the Curious Metallics range. Its latest innovation, Curious Alchemy, comprises five colors inspired by precious metals (silver, titanium, gold, copper and platinum) with a hammered finish and a metal patina effect. For the Creative Packaging business, Delos provides a wider range from Ultra White to Ultra Black in four finishes, Rough, Wove, Nature and Smooth, as well as a range of high-quality recycled products, with papers containing 50% or 100% PCR waste, in white or black, and in weights ranging from 160 to 350g. The Creative Packaging range has also been expanded, with natural felt grain textures (Fine Felt, Epidaure Felt), with 70 embossing patterns for the Geltex range.
