LUXE PACK Monaco 2022: a landmark edition

With visitor numbers on the rise and a host of new features, the 35th edition of LUXE PACK Monaco, the global luxury packaging industry’s key event of the year, will be a show not to be missed.

This year’s edition of LUXE PACK Monaco, taking place on October 3-5 at the Grimaldi Forum, is set to welcome 450 exhibitors from 30 different countries, including 50 newcomers. “We have high hopes of reaching the 9,000-visitor mark that we hit in 2019 with 50% of our audience coming from France and 50% from international markets,” notes Faustine Gambarini, LUXE PACK Marketing Director. The North American faction, absent from last year’s event due to covid-related travel restrictions, will be making a comeback, she notes, and Asian players will also be well-represented.

“The industry’s top players will be exhibiting their latest innovations, including packaging solutions in wood, porcelain, crystal, and leather, and different areas of niche expertise. Designers as well as experts in decorative finishes, 3D printing, and promotional objects will bring added value to the proposition,” adds Gambarini.

Glass takes center stage

This year’s show is highlighting glass in line with the International Year of Glass being celebrated by the United Nations. “Glass is in perfect alignment with the fair’s DNA, so it was a natural move,” explains Gambarini. Indeed, given its cross-sector presence in luxury packaging, the glass theme quickly won over LUXE PACK Monaco’s steering committee, a board made up of major luxury players including Chanel, Pierre Hermé, and Interparfums. “Whether in fine foods, beauty and fragrance, or spirits, there is an overall quality-driven approach to glass that is also focused on the carbon footprint,” says Gambarini. “We are showcasing this ancestral know-how along with our glassmaker exhibitors via a ‘glass road’ signage to highlight the 45 glassmakers and crystal makers on the show floor. In addition, a 44m2 exhibition space for showcasing exceptional, innovative glass products called the Age of Glass in the Atrium Hall is a collaboration between LUXE PACK Monaco, design agency CentDegrés, and FEVE.

A rich conference program

The keynote address, LUXE PACK Trends Observer by Peclers, presented by Patricia Beausoleil, Head of Strategy & Prospective Department at Peclers Paris, will kick off this year’s conference series with a panorama of 2023 packaging-related trends.

Eric Vallat, CEO of Rémy Cointreau, and guest of honor of the show this year, will take the stage on October 4th and share the spirits group's initiatives encompassing the areas of sustainability (in packaging and beyond), retail, personalization, and packaging trends in the premium retail segment.

The conference program will also shine a light on glass, including Material in the Spotlight: The Future of Glass, on Monday, October 3rd at 2pm. The roundtable session will welcome Sandrine Sommer, Director of CSR and Sustainable Development at Moët Hennessy, Frederik Kotz Helmer, Co-founder of Glassomer, which proposes a solution for 3D impression on glass, the European Federation of Glass Packaging (FEVE), and Xavier Gagey, CEO of Pochet du Courval.

On the sustainability front, don’t miss A Journey Towards Regenerative Luxury with Next Generation Solutions, a discussion with Nicole Rycroft, Founder and Executive Director of Canopy and Iris Decamps, Global Packaging & Collections Manager at Veuve Clicquot. (See the upcoming edition of Formes de Luxe magazine for an exclusive interview with Nicole Rycroft.)

In addition to the packaging component, LUXE PACK’s Formulation hall will feature more than 20 exhibitors, including newcomers ABC Texture, Lorraine Cosmétique, Fast Beauty Retailing Endro Cosmétiques & Laboratoire Kalon, and APR Beauty Group. Conferences will cover key issues facing the formulation sector, such as clean beauty, upcycling and developing sustainable fragrance formulas.

LUXE PACK in Green, the show’s competition that rewards sustainable initiatives from suppliers, has five products in the running this year in the sustainable packaging innovation category (from exhibitors James Cropper, Albéa, Iberboard Mill, Papétries de Montségur and Arjowiggins) and three finalists in the sustainable corporate initiative category: Altus Coating, Kurz, and Mill. The awards ceremony, hosted by podcaster Alice Vachet will take place in the Atrium hall conference room on Tuesday October 4th at 4:45pm. We’ll take a closer look at the products and initiatives in the running next week on Luxe Packaging Insight.

And last but not least, LUXE PACK Monaco is hosting the Formes de Luxe Awards once again this year. The ceremony will take place on Monday October 3rd at 5:45pm in the Salle Prince Pierre. Sign up to attend here.
