For its signature single malt, Scottish distillery Isle of Raasay called on UK-based design agency Stranger & Stranger for the bespoke bottle design.
Isle of Raasay, a Scottish artisanal distillery, released a signature batch of its single malt (R-01) this spring after the inaugural release in November 2020. A second bottling (R-02) is slated for this month. Design agency Stranger & Stranger is behind the bottle and brand design of the Hebridean Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Three key themes inspired the design: the dramatic landscape of the Isle of Raasay, the modern island distillery and a sense of place.
The bespoke, decanter-like glass bottle (Stoelzle) is designed to emulate Isle of Raasay’s rugged landscape, with its pattern of fossils and rocks engraved in the mold. For the glassmaker, the challenge lay in the heavily textured glass and being able to wrap the label around three sides of the bottle. The label (MCC) is printed on Avery Dennison’s Rustique Blanc paper and combines embossing, debossing and touches of gold foil.
