LVMH-owned Hennessy has embarked on NFTs, offering up two, numbered limited-edition carafes of Hennessy-8. Designed by contemporary Israeli artist Arik Levy, the cognac’s carafe is the result of a collaboration with Guerlain and Baccarat.
Hennessy is digging into its archives for its first foray into NFTs, releasing the 1/250 and 250/250 carafes of Hennessy-8 that were created in 2016. The Hennessy-8 blend of eight eaux-de-vie is housed in a one-liter crystal carafe (Baccarat) that is blown, cut and engraved by hand. The carafe is set with eight “rings” said to represent the eight generations of Master Blenders at Hennessy.
The brand called on LVMH stablemate Guerlain for the copper silk thread with an ‘H’ seal that is wound around the neck of the carafe using the baudruchage technique. The cork is engraved with a floral symbol, while Arik Levy’s signature features on the underside of the carafe.
Levy also designed the wooden coffret made using 25 layers of oak staves from Hennessy’s la Sarrazine cooperage. It opens and closes with a copper key, and also sports a copper interior. An accompanying “toolbox” contains four tasting glasses, a cork holder and a pipette made of oak barrel wood.
The 1/250 and 250/250 carafes were sold as NFTs to a single buyer on BlockBar.com, an online marketplace for NFTs from wines & spirits brands.
