Primary cosmetic specialist HCP highlighted a prototype of its Grafik powder compact, yet to be released, during this year’s MakeUp in Paris trade show. The supplier’s ultra-slim lipstick refill and a monomaterial lipstick range were also on show.
At MakeUp in Paris last week, cosmetics packaging manufacturer HCP showcased a prototype of its Grafik powder compact. The refillable compact consists of three separate PET components; the monomaterial nature of the pack meant to facilitate recycling. A designated slot houses the product pan which is then secured via a separate ring that locks the pan onto its support. Grafik is designed for powder formulas, such as eyeshadow, and supports different types of decoration techniques including metallization, hotstamping and printing, or matte varnish for a more premium finish. "Aside from the eyeshadow compact, we’ve already designed the entire collection, which includes blush and pressed powder in a variety of shapes: round, square or rectangular," HCP Product Manager Stéphanie Rowntree tells Formes de Luxe.

Refills on the rise
Targeting the luxury lip-product segment, HCP’s Super Slim Refill Lipstick comes in a weighted aluminum case and features a slim refill with a plastic mechanism. The case comes in either square or round versions, and the refill clicks into place thanks to the mechanism inside. Launched in March, the Super Slim Refill system is designed for colored lip products, lip balms or concealers.

In order to market demand for monomaterial packaging, the supplier developed a refillable lipstick range dubbed Harmony. The cap, base and mechanism are all made of either PP or PET to optimize recyclability, with the cap and base suitable for PCR-grade materials. The supplier offers an optional weight added to the base for a more luxury feel. Mono-material lipstick designs in all-aluminium are also available for a more premium feel.

Also on the refill front, HCP showed its Ringo jar, launched in March 2023. Designed so that the consumer does not touch the inside of the jar while removing and replacing the refill, the jar features a pop-out system. The inner pod is popped out of its slot by pushing through an opening at the bottom of the pack. The outer ring is made of PET, while the lid, inner pod and jar shive are in PP.
