Sculpted by Baccarat in black crystal, the bee-shaped fragrance flacon designed by Lorenz Bäumer for Guerlain in 2010 has been reborn. The handmade flacon’s deep black body juxtaposes with the transparent, facetted wings.
In 2010, Parisian jeweler Lorenz Bäumer designed a bee-shaped bottle for Guerlain. In 2022, French crystal maker Baccarat has sculpted the flacon in black crystal.
Some 25 artisans contributed to create the flacon for L'Abeille Noire Édition Prestige. Molten crystal is blown into a metal mold to create the black body of the bee, while its smooth head and transparent, faceted wings are made of pressed crystal. The flacon is first polished before being filled by hand. The finishing touch is by Guerlain’s Dames de table, who perform the barbichage or feathering technique, where silk threads are individually combed to create a fan shape.
The flacon contains an exclusive scent - Imagine Guerlain - an extrait de parfum composed by Guerlain Master Perfumer Thierry Wasser. It blends notes of bitter almond, orange blossom, ylang ylang and benzoin.
Launching in November, L'Abeille Noire Édition Prestige retails at €25,000.
