Groupe Caisserie Bordelaise enters luxury market with acquisition of Wildcat Packaging

The purchase of French luxury packaging specialist Wildcat Packaging will add new sectors to the group’s portfolio, including cosmetics and jewelry.

Groupe Caisserie Bordelaise, a specialist in wooden crates for wine and spirits, is entering the bespoke luxury packaging market with the purchase of Wildcat Packaging. Founded in 2008, the company has around 10 staff and is specialized in small-series coffrets, coffret embellishments and point-of-sale merchandising displays.

”The acquisition will enable us to implement synergies in terms of purchasing and the supply chain,” Constance Donadel, Director of Wildcat Packaging, tells Luxe Packaging Insight.

Wildcat Packaging says that the bulk of its production is done at its site in Charente in France; it also works with partners in the US and China. Most of its customers are in France and Donadel notes “a strong desire among customers to bring production back to France”. While wood is at the heart of Wildcat Packaging’s expertise, it also works with cardboard, metal, Corian and molded cellulose. New material such as vegan leather are also a focus.

“We're seeing strong demand in the luxury sector. Customers are of course looking for sustainable design, and we are working a lot on coffrets that can be reused or repurposed,” says Donadel. At Wildcat Packaging, this is illustrated by products that include wine coffret that can be repurposed as a cigar case or an end table, or a cardboard and aluminum box with cement plinth that can double as a jewelry holder.
