Glenfarclas has launched the latest and final addition to its Pagoda Reserve Series: Pagoda Sapphire Reserve, a 63-year-old single malt whisky housed in a jewel encrusted decanter.
Scotland’s Glencairn Crystal crafted the decanter, as it did for the Pagoda Reserve Trilogy and the Pagoda Ruby Reserve that was launched earlier this year. The decanters are made of hand blown 30% lead crystal, known for its ultra-clarity. For the latest incarnation, the whisky’s age is marked on the front of the bottle by 36 color-matched sapphires.
Glencairn highlights that 11,000 sapphires were ordered for the project, with only those that matched in size and were the perfect shade of dark blue selected for use. The sapphires compliment the decanter’s blue crystal topper and the specially created metallic blue color applied to the Chinese Guardian lion engravings on the sides.
Pagoda Sapphire Reserve is available in two versions: Limited Edition Silver, with 180 bottles (700ml) and 63 magnums (1.5l); and Collector’s Edition Gold, with 45 magnums. Prices range from £23,783 to £56,060.
