Glasgow Whisky has bolstered its collection The Munros with the launch of Macallan 30 Year Old, a premium limited-edition single malt.
The whisky is housed in a bespoke, lead-free crystal decanter (Glencairn Crystal) featuring a double-sided engraving. A mountain range (Munros are mountains in Scotland higher than 3,000ft) engraved on the back of the decanter is magnified through the liquid and visible on the facing. The intricate engravings are infilled with shades of white and copper.
“Our task was to create an elegant decanter that allowed the whisky to do the talking, while celebrating the Munros, so we made this exceptional Macallan integral to the overall design with the mountain range emerging through the liquid,” comments Kenny Tweeddale, Glencairn’s New Product Development Manager.
The mountain theme continues on the copper stopper, which also features a mountain climber. The cork is fleur grade, the highest quality of natural cork available, according to the supplier.
The decanter is housed in a wooden coffret (Abercorn) with a clear glossy piano finish. Between 10-12 layers of varnish were applied, with each coat dried and sanded to remove the slightest imperfection.
Macallan 30 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky, a limited-edition of 133 decanters, is exclusive to the South East Asia market, and is priced around £5,000.
Glasgow Whisky plans to release a new Munros super premium single malt each year.
