US-based FusionPKG is shaking up powder packaging with the launch of Space Sift, its patent-pending sifter jar. The pack’s slim profile not only saves space at retail, the supplier says, but also offers a new user-application experience.
Space Sift features a custom well into which a precise amount of product is dispensed, allowing for convenient and easy application, FusionPKG vp of business development Jessica Tarangioli explained to Luxe Packaging Insight. The excess powder can then be sifted back into the pack. A sliding locking mechanism enables the powder to flow when opened and shuts off the flow when closed, thus reducing mess and product wastage. “The locking mechanism was challenging to develop as it required a lot of R&D to refine and ensure proper function,” she adds.
“We were very intentional about this design,” highlighted Tarangioli. “Currently, loose powder sifter jars are messy, cumbersome and have no dedicated area to blend and tap out product prior to application. We developed Space Sift to revolutionize the loose powder experience."
In terms of visual aesthetics, Tarangioli said that size and proportion were critical, as it was crucial that the pack not be too large. “The goal was to make it slender enough to slide into one’s pocket, while also allowing beauty brands to leverage the slim profile in the retail environment by reducing gondola space,” she explained.
Designed for loose powder and pigments and available in two sizes, Space Sift is made primarily of PETG to withstand active and volatile infused powder formulas. The pack can be decorated with a range of possibilities, including metallization, hot-stamping and screen-printing.
This past February, Aptar Group announced plans to acquire Fusion Packaging.
