Louis Vuitton’s Les Extraits Murano Art Edition honors Venetian glassmaking

Les Extraits Murano Art Edition fragrance from Louis Vuitton reinvents the luxury packaging codes of the Les Extraits collection designed by architect Frank Gehry. For this limited-edition, the fragrance caps are hand-crafted by a Murano glassmaker.

A year after the launch of its Les Extraits perfume collection, Louis Vuitton is introducing the Les Extraits Murano Art Edition. The bottle houses Louis Vuitton’s Symphony fragrance from the original Les Extraits collection composed by house perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud. And while the cap of the previous collection was made of a sheet of aluminum “crumpled like fabric”, the Murano Art Edition reinvents the same shape using Venetian glassmaking. Imagined as a colorful objet d’art, it was brought to life by Murano glass master Simone Cenedese.

The Murano glass caps' flower petal design are crafted using the blown glass technique. Cenedese blew and then sculpted black, red, blue and transparent glass for each cap.  “As challenging as the blown-glass technique can be, I realized after much experimentation that it was the only way to truly represent something as naturally graceful and fluid as Frank’s audacious design,” the glassmaker said in a press release.

“When we first designed the perfume bottle for Louis Vuitton Les Extraits Collection, I had a dream of making the tops in vivid colors. Now, in collaboration with Simone Cenedese and his glass artisans, we have finally been able to realize that vision,” Gehry added.

Les Extraits Murano Art Edition - Extrait de parfum Symphony is launching in November. Limited to 40 pieces, each comes in a  coffret and retails at €5,000.
