Fame: Paco Rabanne's latest fragrance a nod to fashion roots

Paco Rabanne (Puig) has launched Fame, a new woman’s perfume whose packaging is inspired by the fashion designer's iconic chainmail dress.

After the launch of its men’s fragrance Phantom last year, Paco Rabanne has introduced a women’s counterpart. Dubbed Fame, the EdP’s bottle has a similar aesthetic to Phantom, this time taking its cues from the brand’s chainmail dress, accessorized with gold boots and black sunglasses.

The 5ml and 30ml bottles (Pochet du Courval) are undecorated, while the 50ml and 80ml (Pochet du Courval and Heinz Glas) formats are decorated (Solev/Heinz Glas) with all-over silver metallization, gold selective lacquering on the arms and boots and laser etching on the tassels of the dress. On the shoulders, laser etching covers 360°. Solev remarks that given the bottle’s shape, the precision required to print the engraved portions of the bottle was a feat. The covers used in the lacquering process had to be adjusted according to the bottle tolerance in order to avoid a “lace effect", the supplier adds.

Silgan Dispensing's Melodie pump is used for the 30ml bottle, its XD11 pump is fitted to the 50ml and Melodie Pirouette features in the 80ml bottle.

The 50ml and 80ml formats are fitted with a gold galvanized spray cap. Supplier SAF, which produced the 50ml format in partnership with surface treatment specialist Graindorge, said the challenges lay in the level of finishing given the form of the cap and the contrast with its black sunglasses, as well as the automatic assembly of the five-piece cap.

Faiveley Plast Beauty (VPI) produced the cap for the 80ml format – like Phantom, the cap is connected, and the fragrance can be refilled thanks to Techniplast’s RT-Twist technology.

As for the secondary packaging, the box (Egisa/Autajon) is made of Iggesund's FSC-certified Invercote, which is offset printed and embellished with holographic hot-stamping, cold-stamping and inline overprinting, selective glossy and matte varnish and two-level embossing and stamping.

To accompany the launch, the brand called on Dapy to create a factice in injected recycled PMMA. The gold body and silver dress are both vacuum plated; the juice is visible through the circular disc detailing on the dress.

Fame’s fragrance was created by Firmenich perfumers Dora Baghriche, Marie Salamagne, Alberto Morillas and Fabrice Pellegrin. An EdP, the scent blends notes of jasmine, incense and mango accord.

Fame retails at €67 (30ml EdP), €101 (50ml), €132 (80ml). The 200ml refill costs €166.
