French home fragrance specialist Diptyque’s big launch for la rentrée is its collection of refillable candles. Les Mondes de Diptyque’s oval-shaped jars and lids are made of pressed glass.
Already big business in fragrance, make-up and skincare, refills are gaining ground in the candles space. Sweden’s LA:Bruket and Canadian brand Everly offer refills where consumers melt the wax at home, and French company What Matters’ eco-refills come in recycled plastic pots. Now iconic candle maison Diptyque is joining the fray.
For Les Mondes de Diptyque, its refillable candles launched this September, Diptyque called on Italian designer Cristina Celestino, who came up with the oval jar design composed of three superimposed levels. The solid, oval refills are designed to fit snugly inside the jars; for Italian glassmaker Cerve, who made the pressed jars and their lids that also serve as a base for the jar to rest on, even glass distribution was paramount in this creation. On the outside, it was necessary to limit the folds that result from the weight of the jar, the glassmaker explains. The jar is lacquered, with the brand logo embossed on the lid and debossed on the rim. The candles come in textured coffrets.

Perfumer Olivia Giacobetti created the five candle scents: Nymphées Merveilles, La Forêt Rêve, Temples des Mousses, La Vallée du Temps and Terres Blondes.
Les Mondes de Diptyque's 1.1kg refillable candles retail at €220, while the refills are priced at €95. Diptyque candles celebrate 60th birthday in 2023
Diptyque’s classic candles are celebrating their 60th birthday this year. The brand recently came out with a coffret housing its 49 scented candles for the first time. The limited-edition coffret retails at €2,900, with just 12 available.
