On the occasion of its 60th anniversary in 2021, French brand Diptyque is celebrating its heritage with a series of “chapters”. The first spotlights its graphic heritage, while the second takes us back to the sixties and the brand’s first boutique.
Diptyque called on Franco-Greek designer Yorgo Tloupas for the Dancing Ovals limited-edition candle packaging paying tribute to its graphic heritage, and Italian artist Gianpaolo Pagni for the Orpheon fragrance celebrating the brand’s creation and its first boutique.
For Dancing Ovals, Tloupas gave Diptyque’s candle jars a graphic makeover. The jars are screenprinted black (Cerve) with graphic lines in different forms: ovals for the Baies candle, concentric shapes for Figuier, oblique lines for Tuberose and contrasting verticals for Roses. And for the first time, the embossed labels (Eurostampa) on the jars are colored red, pink, blue and green, rather than simply white. The candle jar’s motif is echoed on the outer box (Draeger). Dancing Ovals are priced at €34 for 70g and €62 for 190g.

The Orphéon scent, meanwhile, is conceived as tribute to the eponymous Parisian nightclub that once stood next door to Diptyque’s first store on Paris’ Boulevard Saint Germain.
The fragrance is housed in Diptyque’s characteristic oval flacon (Bormioli Luigi) topped with a glossy black cap (Technicaps). The facing label (Printor Packaging) features three different profiles juxtaposed in three shades of grey, a nod to Diptyque founders Christiane Gautrot, Yves Coueslant and Desmond Knox-Leet. On the reverse, artist Gianpaolo Pagni took inspiration from archive fabrics, as well as the blue faceted pillar that is the only vestige of L'Orpheon and which now stands in Diptyque’s flagship boutique.
The floral woody EdP was created by Olivier Pescheux (Givaudan) and contains notes of vetiver, patchouli and juniper berry. It retails at €135 for 75 ml.
