Denomination designs Battery Point Distillery’s first whisky

Australia’s Battery Point Distillery has launched its first whisky, a single malt. The brand called on agency Denomination for its brand strategy and packaging design.

For the packaging of Battery Point Distillery’s first whisky – a single malt – drinks design specialist Denomination chose to eschew traditional design cues. The whisky boasts a contemporary, minimalist look that highlights the Tasmanian distiller’s handcrafted, small-batch values.

The vibrant colorway – a fresh blue and off-white for the bottle and wood for the secondary packaging – were chosen to reflect Tasmania’s countryside. The stock bottle (Vetroelite) with sloping shoulders is screenprinted on the facing (Cutler Brands) with three blue rings inspired by those painted on the distillery’s first barrels.

The bottle is nestled in a tin canister (Hornet Group) wrapped in real wood paper, with White Matt Foil used for the branding. The lid is spray painted blue to match the screenprinting on the bottle. For the typeface on the cannister and on the label around the neck of the bottle, Denomination combined Stardos Stencil Font with the distiller’s own handwriting.

“So many whiskies from beyond Scotland’s borders endeavor to replicate Scotch design cues – stags, distiller signatures, lochs and glens…,” comments Rowena Curlewis, CEO of Denomination. “Battery Point is unapologetically modern and Tasmanian, and steps away from category conventions in a big way.”
