For the packaging design of its super premium Single Barrels range, El Salvador’s Cihuatán Rum once again called on Paris-based agency Appartement 103. The vibrant illustrations and gold accents are conceived to pay homage to Cihuatán’s brand essence and Mayan heritage.
Salvadorian rum distillery Cihuatán Rum has launched its super premium Single Barrels range Cihuatán Folklore. The first chapter, dubbed Creación, comprises 13 expressions aged in single barrels made of materials ranging from American (ex-bourbon) oak to ceiba.
French agency Appartement 103 dreamed up the packaging design. The rum is housed in a Forte stock bottle from O-I, characterized by its rounded shoulders and prominent, thick base. Made of cosmetics-grade flint glass, the bottle’s facing features customized embossing.
Printed in pantone, the facing paper label evokes a vintage feel, while a second, hand-applied label (both Autajon) features handwritten technical information such as the bottle number, age, barrel type and owner name, personalizing each bottle. Reflecting Mayan folklore, the colorful illustrations are highlighted with gold hot stamping and embossing.
The laser-engraved pine wood and cork stopper (Les Bouchages Delage) is held by a paper label. A tubular cardboard secondary packaging (Industrias Sagarra) with an embossed metal lid features the same finishes as the label on the bottle.
Cihuatán Folklore’s first expression Creación launched in August and retails for $90.
