Chanel integrates PCR glass for N°5 flacon

As Chanel celebrates 100 years of its cult N°5 fragrance, the brand has opted to produce its iconic flacon using 15% recycled glass. The brand says it plans to integrate PCR content into other fragrance bottles going forward.

Chanel N°5’s limited-edition 100ml fragrance comes in a bottle composed of  15% PCR glass, while retaining its purity, shine and transparency close to that of crystal. Glassmaker Pochet du Courval produced both the bottle and cap using its latest-generation SEVA 3 extra-white flint glass.

“Our objective was to develop a high-end recycled glass that would meet Chanel’s qualities of excellence and creativity,” commented Groupe Pochet, adding that ensuring color, purity, shine, transparency and resistance was key. The glassmaker worked with its industrial partners to guarantee the sourcing of high-quality recycled glass.

According to Groupe Pochet, more than 25 tons of virgin raw material are saved on average for every one million bottles produced using SEVA 3 recycled glass.

Chanel will use SEVA 3 glass for additional fragrance packaging components from 2022 onwards.

In other news, Chanel has opted for Sulapac caps for its Les Eaux de Chanel fragrances. The caps contain 91% bio-based materials from renewable resources and FSC-certified wood chips. Chanel took a minority share in Sulapac in 2018.
