Chanel develops Lipscanner make-up app in-house

French brand Chanel has unveiled Lipscanner, an AI-powered iPhone app that analyzes both color and texture allowing consumers to find their perfect lipstick shade in just a few clicks.

Developed as a collaboration between Chanel’s Connected Experience Lab and the Chanel Makeup Creation Studio and using an algorithm exclusive to the brand, Lipscanner enables users to scan a color with their iPhone and compare it to the brand’s lipstick catalog in real-time to find the closest matching shade.

The app takes into account skin tone and lip shape, and can suggest the closest shade to a desired color from among 400 products across five color families (natural, pink, orange, red and plum) and different finishes. If the user selects a photo of someone wearing a lipstick as their inspiration, Lipscanner will also identify whether the lip color texture is matte or glossy.

Thanks to the app’s Virtual Try On feature, consumers can virtually test the product on their lips and click the link to purchase on Chanel’s e-boutique.
