Campari has its sights set on the rum category. Last July, the Italian group announced its intention to acquire Rhumantilles, French owner of Bellonie & Bourdillon Suchacesseurs, proprietor of premium rum agricole brands Trois Rivières and La Mauny as well as Duquesne - three companies with French AOC certification.
The acquisition has now been confirmed, and will include the three brands, as well as their land, distilleries and aged rum inventories. With this transaction, Campari is strengthening its luxury rum offer, a spirits category that is seeing a strong trend for premiumization in the current market.
The group will also be increasing its presence in France, a "strategic market” for the Italian company. The acquisition is valued at €60m and will close in the last quarter of 2019.
