Champagne Carbon and carmaker Bugatti have created La Bouteille Noire, a tribute to Bugatti’s La Voiture Noire hyper sports car. The 15-liter bottle is encased in three layers of carbon fiber, while the leather-lined case features a cooling system and LED lights.
La Bouteille Noire is the latest product to arise from a partnership* between champagne house Champagne Carbon and car manufacturer Bugatti. The one-of-a-kind creation consists of a 15-liter-bottle – a nebuchadnezzar – in a carbon fiber case that mimics the silhouette of the Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic.
Involving 150 hours of craftsmanship, the glass bottle is sheathed in three layers of carbon fiber (IXO Carbon), on which two coats of lacquer are applied. An aluminum label (Néo Color) adorns the facing.
“The bigger the bottle – and those of this size are extremely fragile – the more difficult it is to apply the fiber and ensure luxury standards are met,” Jean-Baptiste Prevost, Managing Director of Champagne Carbon, tells Luxe Packaging Insight. “The label size was also an important design consideration to ensure an aesthetic result.”
The sculptural, glossy black case incorporates 314 individual sheets of prepreg carbon fiber and "state-of-the-art" cooling technology. Fine Havana Brown grain leather lines the coffret’s interior, while the hinged doors are trimmed with laser-cut aluminum. As they open at the push of a stainless-steel buttton, the neck of the bottle is released. Its illuminated base made from a block of acrylic glass and red LEDs mimics La Voiture Noire’s tail light.
La Bouteille Noire contains a 2000 Vintage blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir. The one-of-a kind creation has been sold at auction for upwards of £240,000.
