Beautigloo launches refrigerated beauty box

Compact, stylish, silent and with an average temperature of 10° C, Beautigloo has launched a beauty box "on the rocks".

For those who are used to putting their beauty products in the refrigerator—22 million consumers do so in Europe, according to Kantar—Clara Lizier conceived Beautigloo, a refrigerated beauty box with her partner Florian Ménard. And it does more than keep beauty products close at hand in the bathroom. "The average temperature of a refrigerator (between 4 and 6° C) is not suitable for storing cosmetics as it can modify their textures," explains the former student-entrepreneur. "Not to mention the fact that once placed in the fridge, products can take on the smell of food.” Lizier adds that if poorly closed, they could even be contaminated by food bacteria. Hence the idea of developing a mini refrigerated device. Compact, silent, stylish and diffusing ventilated cold (against humidity), its average temperature runs at 10° Celsius: "An optimal temperature for product conservation," she notes. This may be just the thing for natural and/or clean products that are preservative-free—a sector that is currently booming. Yet yet the brands that have approached Beautigloo thus far are conventional players focused on efficiency and sensorial impact: "In terms of sensorial effects, cold is a criterion of preference often cited by consumers. And as we know cold activates microcirculation, decongests, tones and generally boosts the effectiveness of active ingredients".

More than skincare

While aqueous skincare products (serums, creams, masks) are its main target, Beautigloo is also geared to fragrance and even some makeup items: "Preserved at 10° and protected from light, nail polish, for example, dries less quickly and the formula remains fluid while fragrance retains its full intensity". Winner of the international competition Start In Cosmetic 2018, the concept has not gone unnoticed; it has benefited from the support of L'Oréal, Sephora and LVHM as part of their accelerator programs. And the first figures are encouraging: "In just one week, we’ve gotten more than 500 pre-orders from consumers via our website and received several requests from spas, hotels as well as French and foreign brands," says Lizier. "For these professionals, we can go very far in terms of customization (dimensions, colors, materials, interior layouts) up to co-development.”

Beautigloo, available from March 2020, will be manufactured in France and is free of refrigerant. The brand also claims that it is 98% recyclable.
