Baralan Introduces DEA, its Airless Packaging Solution in Glass

Marrying quality with functionality and sustainability, Baralan's new DEA series is the first airless system where the product is directly in contact with the glass. Maria Cristina Caldarini, Sales Manager Western Europe, explains this unique sustainably designed concept.

What was behind the development of DEA?

We designed DEA, which stands for Developing the Evolution of Airless, with the idea of putting the beauty formula in direct contact with high-quality glass. This gives an authentic aesthetic and sustainable appeal, with the transparency of the material making the color of the product visible. The DEA series represents a new philosophy of primary packaging in glass, using fewer components and significantly reducing the amount of overall materials, resulting in a lighter and more functional packaging that still offers impact to brands with a new level of user experience. In addition, the airless nature of the packaging helps better preserve the integrity of the product's ingredients for different uses and applications.

What makes this series different?

DEA is available in two versions, classic and premium, both of which allow for the possibility of single-use or refillable solutions of the glass container to encourage reuse of components and boost environmental awareness. DEA is available in three nominal capacities: 15ml, 30ml and 50ml. Its standard GPI 18/400 neck finish, combined with the airless system, is compatible with a wide range of pumps, resulting in a modular offer with different sets.

In the end, the solution allows for a high level of product customization, which can be further enhanced through different decoration techniques.

What are your ambitions for DEA?

We wanted to focus on a sustainable approach to primary packaging that extends even to the manufacturing process, which is also innovative, as it significantly reduces energy consumption. Another feature of this new solution is the ability to eliminate lubricant use, which is due to the unprecedented smoothness of the piston inside the glass container: this innovation has been made possible thanks to our dedicated team of professionals specialized in quality and research.

The exploration of this new solution opens the path to new product line opportunities that provide an evolution of primary packaging in glass – and airless packaging in general – to drive and shape the future of beauty.
