Balmain has partnered with French candlemaker Trudon for a limited-edition candle donning the fashion house’s signature gold and black.
A special process was developed to create the striped candle holder (Aton Luce), which is handmade in Italy, explains Trudon. Horizontal bands of gold leaf were applied by hand to the clear glass, which was then lacquered in black. This results in the appearance of a network of fine cracks, meaning that no two candles are alike.
The Trudon coat of arms was hot stamped in gold foil on a black velvet shield—a nod to Balmain’s couture heritage—then applied to the glass.
The box (Valtenna) is sheathed in black Fedrigoni paper and hot stamped in gold on the top and the sides with both Balmain and Trudon’s names and logos.
The candle’s scent is a new take on Trudon’s Ernesto candle. Perfumer Emilie Bouge (Robertet) gave it a “feminine floral” twist by adding black rose to the original notes of Altas cedarwood, leather, tobacco and musk.
Launched this month, the Balmain x Trudon candle retails at €110 for 270g and €600 for 2.8kg.
