Asquan’s makeup brushes offer coronavirus protection thanks to Pylote technology

Beauty solutions specialist Asquan Group has launched a range of cosmetics applicators treated with French engineering firm Pylote’s antimicrobial technology that is said to be effective in providing surface protection against coronavirus.

Pylote’s patented antimicrobial technology incorporates mineral oxide microspheres into the applicators in a liquid state, before they are formed. Brushes and other tools loaded with the technology do not require typical maintenance or disinfecting during their period of use. Tests carried out this month showed that Pylote’s technology destroyed almost 99.99% of coronavirus human strain 229E (which causes colds in humans) on surfaces after 24 hours.

Pylote says that its natural anti-microbial surface protection technology helps to control the risk of bacteria and virus transmission. It works by activating surfaces to enable the destruction of viruses, including the coronavirus family. “Pylote technology has not been tested on a strain of SARS-CoV-2 (which causes COVID-19) as to our knowledge these tests are not available,” a Pylote spokesperson told Luxe Packaging Insight.

Asquan’s range currently comprises makeup brushes, with plans to expand into other segments, like mascara, eyeliner, lip liner and skincare applicators. Testing on those additional items is underway.

Pylote and Asquan formed a partnership in 2019.
