Scotland’s Kilmartin Glen Spirits distillery unveiled its first gin earlier this year. Infused with botanicals sourced from what is described as one of the UK’s richest Neolithic sites, the glass bottle features an earthenware coating.
Design agency My Creative spearheaded the branding and packaging design of the terroir inspired Kilmartin Gin. Inspired by the rock carvings from the archaeological site in Kilmartin Glen, for the bottle, the brand choose VetroElite’s Antica Farmacia model. Decorated with an earthenware coating—an opaque, semi-porous clay—its base is clear, with a touch of copper-colored typography. A minimalistic logo recalling the carvings found on the historic site decorates the bottle’s facing.
A composite cork and birchwood closure (VetroElite) is fastened with a paper overseal (Windmill Print) featuring copper foil lettering.
Given the growing importance of eco-conscious packaging solutions in the drinks industry—a growing priority for consumers, according to IWSR’s 2022 Key Trends report—the design agency conceived a bottle that can be repurposed. A limited-edition range of stoneware tumblers were created by Argyll-based studio Sea Drift Pottery.
Kilmartin Gin launched in February 2022 and retails for €48.
