Described by Albéa as an “advanced recycled tube”, the plastic making up the tube for Estée Lauder-owned Origins will be the fruit of Sabic’s chemical recycling technology.
Beauty packaging supplier Albéa will manufacture the polymer resin tube from materials that have been chemically recycled using Sabic’s Trucircle technology. The process recovers PE and PP waste and breaks it down to its molecular state to create a plastic that is comparable to a virgin grade both in terms of performance and aesthetics. The tube, coined an "industry first", is set to launch in 2021.
“This paves the way for the use of advanced recycled, post-consumer waste into prestige beauty packaging thanks to an innovative source of high-quality resins,” notes Stephane Barlet, VP of Sales at Albéa Americas. The tube is also in line with the Origins brand’s ambition of having 80% of its packaging be “recyclable, refillable, reusable, recycled or recoverable” by 2023.
Albéa has been active in replacing virgin plastic with more environmentally friendly materials as illustrated by its paper tube co-created with L'Oréal earlier this year.
