French spirits distributor Real Diffusion has moved into rum production with the introduction of its Flavors Island brand in 2021. After a debut collection of three rum-based spirits, the brand has now added new flavour Mango Beach to the line.
Real Diffusion entrusted French design agency Studio Boam with the brand identity and packaging design for its first spirits brand, Flavors Island. The rum's story is of an imaginary archipelago in the Indian Ocean, which is represented in the label illustrations. Each bottle has a customized hand-drawn paper label (Alliance Etiquettes) decorated with gold hot stamping.
The conception wasn’t without challenges, the brand explains, as the labels needed to work as standalones as well as fit coherently when displayed as a collection. A chameleon, totem animal of the island, is featured throughout the design alongside other colourful flora and fauna, including orangutans, parrots, tropical flowers and fruit. To further emulate the feeling of adventure and discovery, stamps and distinctive collars were added to each bottle.
The rum is housed in Saverglass’ Oslo Apothek standard model. Inspired by apothecary bottles, it features a curved, thick base and elongated neck with a prominent carnette finish. The brand opted for a Vogue cork stopper from Les Bouchages Delage, topped with a wooden head.
The Flavors Island collection currently comprises four rum-based drinks – Agruma Beach, Banana Beach, Anana Beach and Mango Beach – blending rum from the French island of Reunion with fruit, citrus, cacao and caramel. The spirits are bottled in Brittany and retail for €30 in Europe.
